Why do I need homeowner’s insurance?
TAWANA'S ANSWER:
One of the requirements for a mortgage is proof of homeowner’s insurance. Having homeowner’s insurance provides you with financial protection if your home’s structure has been compromised. You can use your possession date (usually that's your closing date) as the start date of your insurance. Once you have proof of insurance, please submit the documentation to your loan company. Once you have an executed purchase contract, I would recommend shopping around for homeowner’s insurance.
A good place to start is by talking with the company that you are using for automobile insurance. They usually offer a discount if you have both homeowner’s insurance and automobile insurance from the same company.
